Be aware that most of the ladyboys working in Pattaya sell drugs for the barowner. Police regulary arrest them, and if you join a LDB while arrested, you go to jail same.
Often they stay 1 week in prison, but foreigners have more problems trying to tell police that they know nothing about this. |

It's a well known fact that many Ladyboys have drug related problems however, it's the first time I have heard that most LB's working in Pattaya are selling drugs
I for one have certainly never been offered drugs by a LB, not even a head ache pill the following morning |

Fully agree with Pat Tire. The ones that sell drugs not working in the bars, so usually tourists have no chance to see them. Furthermore I agree that many LB's using drugs, or work for drugs, but that we cant change unfortunatelly.. |

Read a book called 'The Damage Done'. Then decide if you want to buy drugs in thailand.
Stay away from the drugs in thailand. |

I usually only suggest a things to people going to Thai for the first few times,
Never go near drugs, and if any one offers you any get away from them quick.
Never say anything bad or funny about Royal Family
Never say anything bad or funny Buddha
Do not hit a Thai
Don't give shit to lady boys
But most important, see number 1 never ever touch drugs. |

Hey laptop I read Damage Done on my trip home back to NYC. I picked it up at the airport. Great read, sort of a Thai version of Midnight Express |

That's the case of sex trade workers around the world, unfortunately. Perhaps a little less so in regions where such activities are more accepted. Around here, the majority of sex trade workers share one or more of these characteristics:
*Are visible minorities (particularly aboriginal)
*Come from abusive backgrounds
*Are habitual drug users
*Have psychological or developmental disabilities, or in some cases physical impairments
*Grew up in poverty
*Are illegal immigrants
Of course there are exceptions, but they're relatively rare. Unfortunately it's true, there's not much that can be done about it. You either patronize their services, and perpetuate the conditions that lead people in these situations into prostitution, or you don't, and take away their only means of survival.
In developing nations, there's the added factor of transfer of wealth and the relative cost of living. With the cost of living here in Canada, I'm living below the poverty line, essentially on permanent disability. However, if I were to move to Thailand or the Philippines or other developing nations, the same amount I'm getting would make me fairly wealthy relative to much of the populace, do to the relatively low cost of living. So not only is the sex trade an effective means of support for those in the adverse situations listed above, by serving largely foreign customers, it's one of the most lucrative trades in the region.
I've forgotten where I was going with this, but you can probably figure it out. |
