Am sorry but I had to just get this off my chest, but this points system is crazy. One of the main reasons I liked this forum was it moved at a much slower pace than others, if you dont check it for like a couple of days, there is just so many new treads and post to go through and I know I dont have to read them, but you never know what priceless info might be in one for someone like me going to bangkok for the first time (24 hours to take off). I always thought the same about a other forum that I think most of us here also look at, but now am leaning towards that one just cause it moves at a slower pace compared to this forum since the points system was introduced, But I'd still like to say thanks to the mods here cause the info and advice offered here has been great.
PS my next post will be a full field report of my first trip and am actually looking forward to posting on this forum |

Know what you mean Tom and if it's been different/difficult for you think about Koykaeng and myself
Rest assured though, we attempt to ready virtually every post and shall not hesitate to delete anything which is not applicable, pointless, rude or in our opinion, utter crap. |

Hi Bigtom,
Appreciate your feedback, and agree in part with your views.
There has certainly been some excellent information posted since the commencement of this "points for posts", but similarly there has been plenty of trivial threads and polls posted as well.
In reality, probably need to give it a few more weeks to fully evaluate the impact.
Meanwhile, will await your trip report !
Cheers

My opinion has been revised (as I mentioned in an earlier post) and I do see an improvement. I understand your comments on trying to keep up - but in general its better.
But we dont all see the effort the moderators/admin are having to put into the disposal of the rubbish trival posts - so they maywell surpass the good posts. So I think a period of reflection is required and agree with koykaeng on that... and I think its best to leave it to their good judgement as to the points system. Theres pros and cons. |

I'm in some agreement with bigtom.
I was wrong about the points system at first and it has helped to encourage more good posters and active members, and after time the less helpfull posters and points hunters seem to give up and get filtered away, so it has worked with it's intention to build up the netwrk of good posters and site members.
This is great for the admin and site owners, and I'm happy for them as it should boost the number of paying members and rewards them for their good work.
But now I'm with bigtom a bit more on this. I use to really appreciate the slower pace of the site and liked the fact there seemed to be no rivalries, bitterness or misplaced jealoucies amongst the regular posters. It was a real breath of fresh air after spending time on a couple of other boards. It was easy to build up banter with other regular posters and everyone I have met on here over the last year has been a top guy and excellent wingman/hunting partner. It was also very easy to speak openly and personally, especially regarding issues such as relationships and such.
Now I fear it's going in the directions of the boards. If I don't check the board for 24hr peroid I fall behind on some of the post and don't get time to read them all. I've already had several clashes of personality in the last week and seen a couple of post where someone has been open about their relationship or feelings and been shot down by the usual macho cliches and closed minded archetypes. It's not that bad at teh moment, and maybe I'm just like complaining, but it would be a shame if it did go the way of most other boards. |

Hi Kliome,
Suggest we all give it a few more weeks to fully evaluate things.
Given I have a "real job" outside this forum, lately I find it a real effort to catch up with all the posts from the night before and respond where needed before leaving for the office.
Luckily I'm usually in the office alone a few days a week, so can check out the forum whilst completing my work.
On a postitive note, there have been some good contributions recently.
Cheers
