Hi All,
I am going to samui or phangan for a week over the xmas break. 
I am looking for a beach view bungalow with air con, tv, hot shower, etc. that is also guest friendly. I am prepared to pay upto 2500 baht.
I have been recommended lamai wanta. Has anyone got any coments on lamai wanta ?
Also, what about koh phangan ?

Lamai is very nice, but Chaweng is bigger and is where most of the GGs and LBs go in the evening (around Soi Mango).
For that budget you will get a veyr nice bungalow on either beach.
Koh Phan ngan is a party island, famous of course for the full moon parties. I would go there for one nice during one of these parties, teh full moon is the biggest one, but they also have 2 half moon and a no moon party every month, so you should be there for something.
I also heard Backpacker mention there was a Katoey party every now and then in Phan ngan, but don't really know much about this. |

lamai wanta is ideal. right in centre of lamai.
hire a motorbike and visit chaweng one or 2 nights too.
phagnnan is quieter and less developed- bungalows without aircon for 300-400 baht. |

Hi 
i think you will go to both islands. The lb scene is not developped as BKK but you can find in Lamai, Chaweng (Samui) and in Hadd Rin (Koh Pha Ngan) some stunning lb's.
Samui/ Chaweng
If you want find a lb in Chaweng go to Soi Green Mango. Before, you can found them in clubs (Sweet and Soul, Green Mangon Mint Bar...), but last year the were not allowed to get in the clubs. So they were across the walking street. But the moment you can see all the lb scene of Chaweng is about 1/2h00 AM near Soi Green Mango and the 7/11 who is just above. Some stunning lb's are waiting on their motorbikes till late and it is the moment you can make the best choice of lb's. You have a lb's bar in Lamai main road too but i dont remembe the name.
For my part in Chaweng , i go to Mailbu Beach Resort on the main road of Chaweng (ac, hot shower, cable tv) for 2000 THB per night. I get there 2 times and they just keep the id of the lb before you go to your bungalow. When you come back at 2 h00 AM there is just a security person and it's not very difficult to give him some THB for have a guest in your room. Malibu beach is just 5 minutes by foot from Soi Green Mango.
For Haad Rin (Koh Pha Ngan)
I go many times to Koh Pha Ngan and you can found a little lb scene here. Near Thong Sala (pier) you have a road with some places you can found pretty lb in bars. On Haad Rin beach, where there is the Full Moon Party, every night you have a club called "Drop-In" where all the lbs of the island come when they have finish to work in those bars... And they are free-lance. Club closed at 4/5 AM. Last year, i found 2 or 3 lb particulary pretty and have good time with them in my bungalow. LT 1000 THB. You can found young lb jewels. There is not a lot of lb lovers so you can have a good choice and they are not agressive like in Samui for money. I will be there around 11 may and make a report of the lb's situation this year. If there is lb 69 members in KPG we can hunt lb's together. I was at Pha Ngan Bayshore bungalows on Haad Rin Nok beach and they never ask me questions about the lb's there was every night in my bungalow.
Haad Rin by night or when there is FMP is the best place to found lb. All the lb's of Samui and KPN get there to FMP and are very, very hot..... When you are face to the beach, Drop-In is on the right at the end of the beach.

Backpacker - I am in Samui 10th May. PM me some details of where you will be and mobile (if have). It would be good to meet up. Are you in Pattaya before you go to Samui - if so we can meet at Club 131 in Pattaya Soi 13/1. Look forward to hooking up.
I need someone with some knowledge of Samui - last time I was there was 12 years ago
