I hear a lot about thailand being good for fake clothing... just wondering anyone have any recommendations on where to go?
I'm after good quality items and dont mind paying if they're good quality fakes that wont go from L to S after the first wash.
Thanks. |

No simple answer as it depends what type of garments you are after and where you are staying.
I buy stuff in Pattaya sometimes in bulk and seldom does low cost= good quality.
But basically Jeans and T-Shirts are alright. |

I've always been surprised at the quality of T shirts, they could give you any old crap as long as the right logo was on it, but in fact I have always found the quality good, washing and wearing well for years. My wife imports fashion from Thailand and Cambodia, not fake stuff. She has a shop, but still does markets, after months of trailing behind her to market, to help set up etc. I decided to get some T shirts from Thailand. They have gone well, so when I go back in June I plan to get about 500 and set up my own market stall (if you can't beat em...).
No out and out copies, the Australian authorities are hot on that, but I might try an under the counter range of Premier League team shits.
Now I just need to find the wholesale source that the Pattaya street vendor use. |

I've been told that some of the cheap gear sold on the street is actually the real goods. It has been made on extra shifts that the factory sells on as it already has fulfilled its contract so can make a nice tidy profit .
Is this true ? |

| Yes Phil, I've certainly heard the same. Stories of Prada/Addidas people buying fakes and not being able to fault the quality. Could be urban myths, but probably not. |

I spent a few days shopping for family, dogsitters and friends Being a it a of a "brandfreak" i have learned to tell shit from shinola. I´m sorry but close to 100% of the stuff you buy in the streets or smaller shops are knock-offs with various quality.
I bought a Lacoste polo on beachroad, 200baht, and it lasted one wash back home. It looked ok when i bought it, i knew what i was buying but wanted to see how long it would last. Total crap.
I bought one for my sister in the Lacoste store right next to Royal Garden, 2000 baht, back home they are 4000baht/70euros and while being originals but made in Thailand the quality of this one doesn´t come close to the one you buy here in Europe, ususally made in Portugal.
Bought some Billabong clothes at Supersports in Royal Garden for myself and payed 3000 baht for a pair of cargo shorts. Very nice, they are about 5000 baht/80-90euros back home and so far these are ok, havent used or washed them alot yet.
Picked up 3 LV handbags for the female friends, some Escada perfume, Boss perfume for men at a shop on beach road at 11 pm. The girl took me to a hidden room where she kept the quality knockoffs, very good copies i must say. Payed about 1200 baht each for the bags after some negotiation.
Last, i bought an original sony vaio tx, a tiny ultraportable light (1.2kg) laptop 10.1 inch screen, at Pantip Plaza in BKK for about 1000 euros less than it costs in europe. They are about 2600 euros here. No international warranty, english/thai keyboard, but i can live with that saving 1000 euros.
Back home a computer salesman friend of mine told me Sony´s hardware and components in computers´s in Thailand are not as "good" as in Japan, europe or the US though.
So as far i can tell, all the stuff you buy in a non official shop are fakes with different quality and the real stuff you buy at malls and official shops are original but not as good quality, but cheaper, as in europe. |

Probobly not helping the thread much but personally I have only bought tee shirts , shorts and Thai shoes . The Power shoes are supposed to be the Official Thai Olympics shoes , but the inner sole pulled out about the second time I took them off so hope they have plenty of replacements for the teams. The tee shirts are wearing ok as are the shorts .
The only name brand I have bought is a Levi's belt but its not something I would wear everyday so has lasted ok .
I keep kicking myself for not buying a watch and sunglasses as I have had to buy both here just before my trip back
I nearly forgot I bought a really good camo hat in Bangkok which I wore all over Thailand but my silly wife decided to get off the bus about 5am on the outer suburbs of Pattaya *so it got lost in the rush to get off the bus. I spent three days trying to find a replacement but ended up with a crap one my wife got me.
*we then had to wave down a bike rider to go get a taxi so we could get a ride to a hotel which took about an hour |

| Anybody know where to get some decent Ties (not Thais) in Pattaya as I'm quite bored with my selection. |
