I am planning my second trip to Thailand for this Dec/Jan. I hear that Dec is high season. Any tips? I also hear as a result of it being busy the prices go up, any truth? Some other questions that come to mind are:
1-New years eve BKK or Pattaya? Which is better. Has anyone been to Q bar on a big night I know its not LB friendly but the GGs are amazing there. Any other suggestions?
2-How far in advance should I book to get the best price and not get locked out. I am looking at fares now and they seem to be about 1500.00US I paid 1040.00US in March.
Last time I stayed at the DGI in both BKK and Pattaya both were excellent. I'll most likely do the same.
3-Is christmas anything big in LOS (does it have any effect on the LB scene except for perhaps some funky Santa costumes at Guess bar)?
4-I went in March/April will there be more LBs / GGs around in Dec/Jan as a result of the increase in tourist or will there be about the same just a higher demand (and of course higher prices too I guess)?
Any insight to these question and any other pointers would be appreciated. The help I got on my last trip from this board was spot on. Thanks in advance!
Oh and also any board members plan to be around? I am looking at a trip from Dec 13 to Jan 3 |

Yes, it certainly is high season given the majority of people only have the opportunity to travel during this period. Not all prices are affected, but airfares are biggest consideration.

Despite 20+ trips to Thailand I always avoid the X-mas / New Year period. I think it becomes a personal preference although I'd imagine New Years eve in Bangkok would be pretty wild.

Last time I stayed at the DIG in both BKK and Pattaya both were excellent. I'll most likely do the same.
The sooner you can confirm dates and book the better as demand is always high. I don't think that the room rates at the Dynasty Inn hotels fluctuate with low and high season, so that is one bonus. Airfares are always the biggest killer.

Given that the country is largely Buddhist, the significance is much less than in certain western countries however I'm sure they attempt to make the most of it from a marketing perspective.

Not really any more girls working, but demand clearly will be higher.

Nothing much more to add other than it will be a little more expensive for certain things, but many costs won't alter at all.
Cheers

For the last fifteen years I have spent Christmas/New Year in Pattaya however, finally I have decided to give it a miss in 2007/08 because last year it was just too damn busy. Like Songkran though, it is worth experiencing at least once. The big advantage of that time of the year is of course the weather is perfect, while in Europe/N America it is lousy and although as KK says, Thailand is in the main Buddhist, the Thais really embrace Christmas for the sake of the farangs with the funds
Not sure where your opinion of the Q-Bar comes from Larry but do not judge the place by the images of the beautiful babes you see on their website. Those are the best looking girls who have been in attendance that month and usually they are accompanied by their rich Thai boyfriend or farang customer The owner, David always has his camera in his pocket to take snaps but only the lookers end up on his web site and even they are heavily enhanced on his PC before uploading. Also the place is very small and soon gets too crowded for comfort. |

I have spent the last 2 new years in Bangkok and it is a great time to be there. There are usually loads of guys from the forums around, and there is a party atmosphere in Nana and last year at Guess.
I didnt really notice the big differences in prices in Bangkok, but Hua Hin was extremely busy.
Definitely recommend it. |

1- I spent this New Years in Pattaya. It was absolutely packed to the rafters. Walking Street was like Oxford Street on the last shopping day before Christmas. On teh plus side, I've never seen so many LBs and GGs in my life, supply seemed to raise to meet the demand and we had an awesome time. The only negative was getting through the crowds. I think this year I will try BKK.
2-I booked my ticket for the Christmas period in early Novemeber and managed to get a good deal. LDN to BKK. I went driect with Thai air. Obviously the eearlier the better, but now could be too early, as some companies don't release their lower prices or any seasonal deals until later.
3-I spent Christmas in BKK, again had a very good time. Met up with some mates and LBs for a big Christmas dinner, then swanning around the Gogo bars wearing a Santa hat with lots of kissing under the mistle toe. It beats family arguments and watching the sound of music. The only negative to this was that some hotels seemed to charge you for a Christmas meal whether you were planning to eat there or not, same went for New Years in some hotels.
4-There will be a lot more LBs and GGs there over Dec/Jan than any time of the year. I don't know where they come from, but they come, and Dec/Jan is peak season for tourists, prices, and the amount of girls on show.
I will definitely plan to be in either BKK or Pats again for this Christmas/New Years. |

When I was there I saw the best looking Thai women and I don't know where else to go to meet women of that quailty. BTW I was in the bar for maybe 20 minutes and I met 2 Thai beauties that I left with they were non-pros (or a leat money was never discussed with me although I did buy them each a drink which we never finnished)
Regardless I would love to put together some kind of event. Either just a meet up or something a little more organized. I am open to suggestions and want to rally the troops. I know its still a little early in the game but I'm planting a seed |
