Wasn't open in August when I was there - it was reported as being behind schedule, so I think it will be a while before it will be ready.

I remember driving past the construction in February and it looked a couple of years off. I'm guessing it's a fair distance to link up to the sukhumvit line.

I think I remember someone saying it was due to open December 2008, but I know in the past they've constantly changed deadlines and dates as previsous governments tried to privatise the deal.

I may be wrong but I don't think it will be complete and open within the next 12 months.

One thing puzzles me about this airport skytrain City link is the business of carrying heavy suitcases up/down those steps to those Sukhumvit Rd stations and then once on the skytrain suitcases on the floor would be a real nuisance druing say a busy morning rush hour about the time flights land Confused

Good point, but my assumption would be that it will act like a shuttle and link to the nearest Sukhumvit station, at which point I'd think they'll have better access to steet level and have a taxi rank.

I'm not sure of the exact geographical lay out but I wouldn't of thought Ekamai isn't too far the joining point, leaving the penny pinchers to catch the bus to Pattaya.

Was in BKK last month, and since I'm in construction, my guess probably won't be too wrong -- can't see it being finished for months.
Since I'm back again this Friday morning, I'll have a closer look...

I think that is being very conservative based upon what I saw in mid July Confused

Pentire, you are right. I had a closer look this morning on the way in from Subi to SV
At least six months, if they went flat out ... probably a year at least based on the level of observable activity

Is this a good form of transport for getting around Bangkok for a solo Newby and where do you pay for tickets?
When travelling last visit we used buses ,Taxis and TukTuks but as the wife is able to talk Thai it was very easy. I was only there for three days so did'nt get my bearings .
I'm used to using the MTR in HongKong which is easy for an English speaker .

I often use it during the day especially when I want to visit MBK shopping centre or head to Chatuchak Weekend Market.

It's very easy to use, and there are machines and manned booths at every station.

They also have free pocket sized maps which I guess would be useful for newbies.

No need to speak Thai, you'll be fine.

Here's the link to the BTS Skytrain website;

The Skytrain and the MRT (subway) are very efficient and inexpensive ways to get around Bkk. Really convenient for anything on the routes - bypasses the terrible traffic jams that can occur. Rates vary according to distance traveled.

Im not bothered by a few stairs. So train will be good for me.

Even tho I bring a laptop, camera and few accessories, i tend to travel very light, 2 pair of shorts, pr of jeans, 3 t shirts, 2 short sleeve shirt and pair of jeans. Add a few cosmetics and im done. Dont understand the need for a heay suitcase.

I take the view that the richer and better dressed u are the bigger the target. I got to Phil and Los regularly and im of the opinion making out u have lots of money is asking for trouble. Hey I do this in London also. Just my view eveon thought a little of topic.
