Hi guys,
Quick question, I going booking my flights this week for april but british airways(BA) is 1098euro gone up 70euro since last week and Thai airlines is e948.
Thing is, i have travelled twice with china airlines and their shit!
u dont have your own TV, selection of movies etc. as i just cant sleep on the plane and the food is not the best(well to my taste) went with BA at xmas i cant fault them! food great, service great and your own tv watch as many moives as u want.
my buddy wants to try Thai airlines this trip! been honest i have no problem spending an extra e150 just for my own TV on its own! but he says thai are the same as BA and have there own TV etc.
been honest i doubt it! going by china arilines and my mate 1st trip he went with KLM (i think not sure) and again a TV screen about 10rows in front of you and shows one good movie and 2 stupid programes! ie. like china airlines last sept. a 2hr programe on water mellons!!!
so just wondering if any of ye have travelled with Thai airlines and what are they like etc.
Cheers...

Thai in-flight service is pretty fair, even in economy class. Business is good, and first class is excellent, they provide your own guide to take you from the plane all the way through to customs and out to your taxi.

On the ground, reasonable, check-in is a little chaotic, but they have never lost a bag in a couple of decades of flying with them, and weight allowances are quite generous.

BA - only flown them a few times - not impressed, but then most of my flying is done in the region, Singapore, Cathy Pacific, Thai and the odd leg on Lufthansa or United - arghhhh.

Just remember it is a long trip. try to keep your blood flowing, exercise those leg muscles, don't drink too much, keep well hydrated with water, and a kiddies' aspirin tablet before the flight would help to reduce the chances of economy-class syndrome.

Try Eva.
They have good rates and a good service from LHR
Have you tried the Arabian Airlines (emirates, etihad, qatar etc) good rates, but one stop.

I used to Fly Qantas, but when they ceased flying directly from Melbourne to Bangkok quite a few years ago, I switched to Thai Airways and have stuck with them.

I give them the big thumbs up ! Cool

The Business Class product is really good, and even the economy is pretty decent.

Cheers

Ive only flown thai Airways from Sydney and they were good. but no small tv in front of your seat. However i am not sure if it is the same from london. Qantas are my fave from Sydney. (Never get Royal Brunai From Sydney)

Direct from Dublin if flew maliev. They are very poor and they changed the flight schedule 3 days before departure. I had to spend 12 hours in Budapest. Not Happy.

When my GF comes here she flies etihad however she has to stop over in one of the Arab countries. From my experience this is a pain in the ass.

BA, as you know are great. Look at Qantas from London too. They are as good. I heard Air France are ok too but this is according to my mate.

Right now only the new Thai Airways Boeing 777s have a TV in the seat for economy class. The older planes don't have it, in economy class, but do have it for business class.

That being said, Thai Airways service is pretty good, not up to the standard of Singapore Airlines (the best I've flown with).

IMO, EVA blows. Thai is very good. Flew non-stop LA to BKK. Step up and go Premium Economy. Beats a lot of the Business Classes on US Domestic Airlines.

Thanks for all the replies lads,
even though i booked with BA at xmas we flew back with qantas, service i thought was very good and had TV in my seat which is a must for me! as i am a very bad sleeper on the plane.
flights cost with BA is 1098euro for april been honest not bad!
thai is 985euro, qantas is euro1014.
only thing is with Qantas will they have tv in there seats??
i think they will as they probably making the trip to Oz and BKK is just a stop over!
so if any of ye have gone with qantas let me know the story.
i be going from cork to heathrow then heathrow to BKK.
times with BA and qantas is about 17hrs to BKK when i get on plane in cork so thats pretty damn good!

Check out www.airlinequality.com

I'm never going to fly with BA after my last fight with them in October last year.

The aircraft was 1 1/2 hours leaving Bkk then broke down on the runway causing another 2 hour delay (we where left on the aircraft).

The flight attendant spent most of his time chatting with someone he seemed to know and pretty much ignored everyone else. They didn't have any Australian Customs forms. The IFE didn't work for a couple of hours. Gave wrong information about arrival times. Then to cap it off the Aircraft broke down again when it landed in Sydney and had to be towed to the terminal causing another 45 minute delay.

Apart from that BA where fine!

I fly Thai, Qantas, Cathay and Singapore at various times .. although I hear Emirates is best value.

Anyway, Thai have TVs in seatbacks on newwer planes, but not on the older ones in Economy (e.g 747 Syd-->Bkk no TV, 777 Bkk--> Syd yes TV).

Qantarse and Singapore appear to have TVs everywhere (older QF 747s retired to the Perth / Sydney flights?!).

Service attitude best on Singapore, v good on Cathay and Thai .. so-so on Qantas - depends on crew.

Hope you get a good flight, which ever way you go. Just go to Guess when you arrive to get over it all! Very Happy
