The biggest joke of all about this is when I just checked my statement online to see if there were any unauthorized transactions I found I was charged twice for the purchase of petrol from my local Garage , where I have been buying petrol for about 18 years.

You and Auto must go to the same gas station
I did call my credit card/bank before I left to let them know I would be using my cards in Thailand. (I believe someone on the board had recommended it previously). The bank told me it was a smart move as I probably would have been stopped out after my first transaction.
They put the dates I would be traveling into the system, gave me an int'l number to contact in case of any problems, and it was smooth sailing. I will do the same on my future trips as well. It was a good to have Peace of mind. |

I would always take a CC with me and use it predominantly to pay for hotel stays, additional flights and emergency funds, but extremely unlikely would it be used for anything else.
I have used mine at the Dynasty Inn (BKK), Dynasty Inn Pattaya, Nana Hotel (BKK) and C&N Hotel in Phuket - Never had any issues. But they always swipe it first on arrival for their own security (common practise) and rip up the slip in front of me at the end when I re-use it for payment. Many hotels adopt this policy for self-protection, so you don't leg it without paying.
However, I would NOT use a CC for incidental purchases at small outlets or restaurants for fear of abuse, always use cash for that. |

Seems my problem was with the Hotels email system as I was arriving at 2am I had to give them my card details . Somehow the details were passed onto an internet site ? not really sure where they ended up.
In the last two years I have had four overseas trips and have not notified the Bank before hand and have never had any other problems so I hope this was just a one off situation. |
