I believe gareth75 is asking about HD and Blueray DVD formats. Gareth, these formats are simply disc formats and have no impact on LB69 HD videos that are available by streaming video from the internet - not on a DVD disc.

As Rxpharm points out.. What has the death of 'HD DVDs' got to do with online vids?

Does this mean all our HD TVs and PC monitors are suddenly going to stop working?

gareth, please read carefully what was posted regarding this - Bluray and HD are disc formats - for DVD. They do not affect the monitors or television sets. This will have no impact on LB69 HD videos that are streaming video from the internet.

The discussion about how pcs and laptops are affected have nothing to do with their displays or video adapters, but with the kind of DVD drives that will be included with the systems.

HD tvs will not be impacted either.

Just think back to VHS and Beta video recorders/players. Did the tape format change affect the TV sets? The same thing applies to the type of DVD disc format that will be used for HD video.

If you wonder why people on the forum give you a hard time at time, it has to do with posting without checking your facts so often.

Gareth,

Just to simplify it a bit further for you!

A HD video is shot on a HD camera. HD camera's and HD DVD are two completely different issues.

The recording of video and optical delivery display systems have nothing to do with each other in this argument, I don't think you understand what you are talking about.

You can still shoot video on HD, and in fact people are still shooting feature films and TV shows in high end HD format. HD TVs are still flying off the shelves! and HD internet stremas are still amongst the bets quality you will find.

The HD Vs Blue Ray issue is about video storage in the hard form, DVDs it doesn't make HD streams on the internet redundant in any way.

here is what i read i taken out of google for others to read

Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) and Sony officials are in talks that could lead to a version of the Xbox video game console equipped with a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player.
Sony Electronics U.S. president Stan Glasgow revealed the discussions at a media dinner Thursday in San Francisco, according to an account of the event published by London's Financial Times. Glasgow said his company is also engaged in talks aimed at adding Sony Blu-ray to devices made by Apple, according to the paper.

Microsoft found itself without a high-definition video partner last month after HD DVD developer Toshiba said it would drop the format. Toshiba's announcement followed commitments by virtually all major Hollywood studios to back Blu-ray.

Days after Toshiba formally pulled the plug on HD DVD, Microsoft said it would discontinue an external Xbox 360 drive that supports the high-definition movie format.

Microsoft had been selling an HD DVD player as a $129 add-on for the Xbox 360. Existing units are now selling for less than half of that on eBay.

The death of HD DVD puts Microsoft in a quandary. Sony's PlayStation 3 console features a built-in Blu-ray player. With HD DVD no longer viable, Microsoft needs to find an alternate high-definition format for the Xbox.

The company could itself move to Blu-ray. But it might also reject its rival's technology and focus instead on offering high-definition downloads through its Xbox Live online content service.

Microsoft already sells a limited selection of HD television and movie downloads on Xbox Live, which boasts more than 10 million members.

In the meantime, Microsoft has said that HD DVD's discont inuation won't hurt Xbox 360 sales -- insisting that it's games, and not movies, that dictate console sales.

im just confussed what going one with blu ray and hd and my xbox360
Very Happy

Yes, re-read what you have posted.

Again.. That statement is about HD DVD (hard format) and HD DVD players, it's about the hard materials.

It's simlar to the VHS Vs Beta video storage. Blue ray looks to have beaten HD in the battle over OPTICAL VIDEO STORAGE (DVD), it will effect DVDs and DVD players/recorders (including the Xbox in terms of it's ability to play HD DVDs).

It DOES NOT concern shooting HD, HD tv channels, HD tvs, monitors or HD STREAMS.

Many of the sites are yet to start shooting in HD, so the debate about HD vs Blue Ray becomes academic.

Some of the specifications they compare are virtually indistinguishable by the human eye.

Incidentally, should Blue Ray ever become the norm, does one then refer to "Blue movies" as "Blue, Blue Ray movies" ? Very Happy

Cheers
