I'm an American guy, early 40's, who has been living in Amsterdam for the past 2 years.....and loving it ...and loving all the possibilities with gg's and lb's here....and I've really loved my holidays to Thailand, for the same....
So....I may have a possibility to transfer to Singapore for a job with my company....
I would like to get some board members' opinions about this....especially those who do, or have lived there....
I know there is an active gg and lb scene there....but that's not really what I'm concerned about.....what's it like to live there in general, especially as a Westerner? Is there a decent nightlife scene there? how's the expat scene there? do the locals respect expats, or are they pissed on?
I've never been to Singapore, but I do plan to visit there in early May....but I would like to get some opinions before I do so....would I be wasting my time? does anyone from here enjoy their time in Singapore? Please let me know.

Hi thedeno,
Well I love the place, quality of life is excellent and expats are treated well here, it has a quite an active nightlife with The PowerStation, Clarke Quay, Chimes (Spelt wrong) and a few other areas. There's also an excellent selection of asian working GG and LB's (Biggest problem I find is SOOOO many working girls that its hard sometimes to find locals.) On top of this you have English as the primary language, amazing cheap food and $220 SGD flights to LOS at the weekend. (I'm same as you early 40's originally from UK but 15 yrs in the US.)
You just have to be able to take the weather its 24-30c everyday and most days it rains for at least an hour. (I love it, never worn anything but a shirt unless I'm travelling.) One area it is lacking is sports if your big into them. I was worried when I arrived about the no spitting, no littering, no chewing gum, no etc etc.. but I've pretty much found you can have a great time aslong as your not disturbing anyone else. The only area that I've had complaints about is many bars wont allow LB's in. Oh and the other complaint I hear all the time is the Western Ladies who are looking for boyfriends complain all the Western guys seem to want to chase the nubile young asian ladies. (Shocking really.) Whoops and housing is pretty expensive although it seems to have peaked at present and is sliding down a little now.
I've no plans if I can help it of leaving here anytime soon...
Singapore is like "Little America" anything you want to find, (But Bargain First) Quaity of like OK, you can join the American Club there, and make quite a few friends REal fast, and then walk from there to the Tower of Pain.
Price wise, probably same as Amsterdam, in Smaller size but taller buil;dings and one Hell of a Thunder and Lightning activity. There used to be seasons there, I am not sure if Southeast Asia has them anymorte as in the last so called Dry season, it has done nothing but Pouring rain, at least in MAlaysia.
Sing has a tendency to get a bit boring, as it is so small, but you are just a Hop away from Indonesia, Thailand and so on.
Enjoy
