Booked to stay at the new Hotel Ibis Erawan Patong, Phuket - as my company get 75% off room rates. Would of booked ThePlaceToStay, but this was much cheaper.
Paying just THB 600 per night, but its brand new and due to open in May.
Anyone in Phuket at the moment that can tell me if it looks about ready? And as the websites map is, well, rubbish, Is it far from the action?
Thanks guys |

hey Fatboy,
if its a brand new hotel, prob be guest joiner fee there aswell as its new and prob want to target familys, not sure how lb friendly it will be aswell.
but plenty of cheap rooms around now so will prob be cheaper to book each night when with companion than paying the guest fee.

| Thanks for the tip Stevie - You think there will be a guest fee even if i've reserved the room for 2 people? |

| As long as your chosen one registers with you upon check in then no problems. Also Ibis hotels in Europe are very basic and lack any real degree of comfort or style however, they are clean & satisfactory and ok for a day or two but no more than that IMO. |

there wont be a guest fee on the first lb or gg you take back as long as she registers as pat said, but any after there may be ?
but id have a quiet word with manager and tip him if you think theres going to be many coming back, say if its 1000b for guest and you you having many back it could add up! but say to manager your tip him when you leave and he'll take the bait, leave him 500b on way out

Hi fatboy, I live right next to this hotel, and if you like i will call in and ask about "joiners fees" - you really dont want to be paying extra for a "guest".
BTW its just off Beach Road next to Gracelands Hotel. rather a long walk to Bangla (in this heat). So factor in a motorbike taxi fare of 40B each way. However, its a very short walk to the beach. |

Thanks guys
Jimbo, i'd really appreciate it if you could pop in and find out the next time you're passing by - I assume this means that it is open for business now? I'll buy ya a beer or two when I come down in a couple of weeks!
Sounds like I should just book an alternative hotel, despite its incredible value. I have stayed in Novotel, Mercure and Sofitel hotels in Bangkok and have until now not had any problem with guests or visitors, so Im now getting a little worried that i'll be paying more in guest fees than I did for the room in the first place!
Sounds like it may be abit too far from the action aswell....?
Look forward to hearing from you |

Hi Fatboy
I can confirm that there is NO charge for visitors. LBs are accepted too. They just leave their ID at reception and collect on way out - normal practice here.
Hotel is only just opened and very quiet, which may suit you. Its not SO far from the action bur usually you will find it too far to walk in the heat. You could hire a motorbike/scooter while you`re here - about 150-200B per day, which would give you the freedom to get around and see the rest of this beautiful island as well as getting to and from soi Bangla. |

Jim - you are a legend. Thanks for that mate. Guess that means it can get added to the LB friendly list then on this thread.
Never rented a scooter before so a little dubious - dont have an international driving license (only my UK one) and never ridden one before, but as you say there should be loads of motorcycle taxis around.
You've eased my mind considerably and thanks again.
Hope the beer is cold, 'cos i'll be there soon. |

If you`ve never ridden a scooter before, this is NOT the place to start - they`re fackin loonies here. 2 people die every 3 days on the island! Best stick to motor-bike taxis for evenings and walk (50 yds) to beach. However if you did decide to risk it, your UK licence is all you need - along with some good insurance!
PS : turning temp down on beer fridges ! |

I agree with the guys, Wade, www.theplacetostayphuket.com, is owned by an american, Tom, who is well known to many on here. Good guy, good accomodation, good price, and real near the action.
Look forward to meeting you. |

Does Theplacetostay have sufficient bed linen these days because a couple of years ago upon checking in, all I was offered was a top and bottom sheet
When I asked for a light duvet or a blanket the maid said ''no have'' so I walked around to the Yorkshire Inn and stayed there for a week instead.
I did like the room at Theplacetostay though and would be happy to reside there given some bed clothes to sleep under. |
