I'm planning a trip to Koh Samui when I am in LOS for two weeks in June.
Can anyone give me any advice as to how best to get there, and the best way to book this excursion.
I am taking a LB with me so am looking for a guest friendly hotel in a nice spot near the beach.
Any ideas please. |

Used to stay at Beachcomber, not too far from nightlife and has beach access, LB Friendly

Believe it or not I hate saying it, but if you haven't already try typing "KOH SAMUI" into the search function, and you will find alot of relevant / useful threads.
I used to fly to Koh Samui from Pattaya, via Utapao airport.
Bangkok Airways used to be the only airline servicing the island however I believe Thai Airways are now offering the service out of Bangkok & Phuket and possibly other places.
Cheers

| A cheaper way to go there instead of using bangkok airways is by flying with air asia to surat thani and then from there with a bus/ferry combination (tickets at the airport) to samui. |

Thanks for that. It looks a good way to go. Is the train journey worth considering??

I always use the Air Asia service to Surat Thani now. Yeah, you have a 2 hour bus, and 1.5 hour ferry to factor into your journey, but - Bangkok Airways direct is just so damn expensive in comparision. I paid just 99 THB each way plus tax last time with Air Asia.
Thai Airway's entry into the Samui market may help, but think its more just to offer International passengers the chance to connect via BKK easier, on the same airline and ticket. Considering Samui airport is owned by Bangkok Airways, I can't see the fares dropping much, despite Thai's entry to the market.
Train? Unless you want to spend a night on a train, wouldnt bother. You can get to Surat in about 12 hours if I remember by train - or just 55 mins by air. You still have to then get the bus and ferry to Samui. |

| Thanks for that. Do you book everything at the airport in BKK or do you use a travel agent. I am really looking fwd to going to this Islan but the journey is a worry and I want to get it right as I will have a lovely LB with me. Thanks. |

Its so easy, and normally cheaper these days to just do it yourself via the internet - and knowing some Thai travel agencies around, its much safer to do it this way too!
If you elect for Air Asia services, as previously mentioned the Bus/Ferry combo to Samui needs to be bought in the arrivals hall at Surat. On your return from Samui, it can be bought at the ferry pier, the day you fly. |
