I dont think Gaz realises that you are working and living in Thailand as 3000 a day seems to be considered cheap by some people when you are bar hopping . Somedays I would only spend that much and others about three times the amount .
The CC debate can be very nasty.  |

It just some think im being a cheap charlie, i know what it like to live there and some people not even drink if u drink and get pissed every day then,
Yes u will spend more and if u keep buying friends etc drinks then it becomes lot more but if u keep within reason and budget what u going to spend every day and if u staying 6 weeks like most that go there just budget around 3000-5000bht a day and u will be ok plus u accom u can still enjoy u self. |

It had to happen eventually, but I agree with gaz here.
Any idiot can spend spend spend, but on a holiday of around 3 weeks or less that's exactly what you want to do.
But for those on longer stays, apart from making your money last, you simply don't want to or can't over-indulge every single day, I certainly didn't.
IMO the Cheap Charlie moniker is not really relevant to a person's overall daily spends, it is more to do with how deep their hand goes into their pocket when they DO go out to the bars and restaurants. |

i hate all the cheap charlie talk.
if you sit in a bar, drink 3 beers and pay 2000 baht for the bill.
does that mean you are not cheap?

but i do know a member who,
in between bar hopping, nips into 7/11 and buys a bottle.
then takes the supermarket bottle into a bar, and makes it last all night, and orders street food (despite the bar selling it) and eats it in the bar.
that is as cheap as it gets. |

When I was in Thailand travelling with the wife and sister inlaw I usually paid for everything but most days doubt that I would spend more than 3000 bht . The odd occasion that I managed to get out by myself for a sly shag I would have probobly spent a bit more . The time I took about nine of the family out and paid for lunch , beer and whisky I dont think I paid more than 8000 bht.
The night I spent all night drinking whiskey with two bar girls in a beer bar and came home at 7am was still a very cheap night .
I spent 12 days in Manila and 18 days in Thailand at Christmas and wanted to do something different from Bar hopping everynight . Next trip I am going for three weeks as I doubt I will have any companions to go out with and may get bored.
IHow can you guys agree with Gaz when one minute he's saying Freebird will be labelled a CC and in the next post he's saying the opposite. 
I was not calling anybody a CC . I was just trying to point out that the CC debate can be a load of bollocks but seem to have been taken out of context.
I met the fellow you are talking about . He was renting a place for himself and a friend and was being very careful with money . If thats how he wants to holiday thats up to him . You dont like the cheap label but you are applying it to him .
I'm now very confused. or maybe I'm just too tired to read this debate. Think I will leave it to the experts.  |
