It happened to me first time in Pattaya.
I ordered a drink in Pooks bar Soi 6 Pattaya, when a really stunning Lb named JOY approached me.
I took my wallet out of my jeans and tipped her 100 Bath put my wallet back into my trousers.
She sat ON me and I put my arms around her. Suddenly she told me, she must talk to friends for 1 minute, and walked away to another Lb.
She came back 1 min. later with a big smile.
15 min later I´ve met another boardmember, and suddenly I noticed my wallet isnt there where it should be.
I was tricked, I went talk to JOY, she did very surprised, helped me looking for it.
Mamasan & Bigboss had been called, the video-system at the bar didnt work properly.
As only the LB JOY approached me closely enough to get my wallet. Of course, everybody denied it!
Its really sad, how customers will be treated like that in POOK´s bar, and it is surely a No go area for me and others from now on! |

If there are thiefs operating at Pooks Bar then that is very sad and I am to read of your experience. Certainly no problems for me at that place thus far.
Based upon your report I would make two observations/questions
Did you report the incident to the Pattaya Police at Soi 9 Perhaps not, because the local media love these type of stories and your name & nationality would probably be printed and mentioned on television.
Why do guys carry money in a wallet while on holiday in Los a wallet is a much easier target then a roll of money stuffed deep into your trouser pocket I sometimes use a wallet in my homeland but never while I'm wearing jeans or shorts. |

This thread should be more about Newbie Advice rather than a warning about Pooks Bar.
As pentire correctly states, it is crazy to use a wallet as it is obvious that it is the single place where all the goodies reside.
Spreading money around a pair of cargo pants or shorts with multiple pockets to me seems obvious. Also, deliberately splitting it into smaller bunches of notes means you never reveal ALL you dough in one go. Not just some of the girls, but every Thai you deal with is looking at your wad and weighing you up when you get your money out to pay, they are on constant watch for an easy target.
It's a shame when this kind of incident occurs, but there is only one person to blame.
Use your common sense. |

I've not had any problem using a wallet but then I only keep what I can afford to lose in it . I also have a good clear out before going overseas plus leave the rest of my valuables in the hotel safe .
I usually also put my wallet in my front pocket .
The advice of the others makes me think I've been a bit careless and will think about using ziplock bags when going to the bars in Thailand next visit. |

I agree with phil the best way to deal with situation i had few attempts at jsb a while a go but i to wise for that the best way is when u go out take about 2000-3000bht thats enough to get u started on a hunt and a few drinks i have an old wallet when i use
when i go out i leave all my cards and cash in my room in the safe and i hid my laptop and values where ever i can find a hiding spot under bed or i put it in cupboard in my bag so no one can see it and i always go out in tight jeans because much harder to pickpocket.
Someone when wearing them as u can feel staight away if they try ithe most common thing i found with the bars is short changed happend to me plenty times in jsb, blue ice and few others they forget to give u change back but i not let that happen i pay each drink seprate not run a check bin as anyone can add drinks to it and u left with the bill and if my change not come back i make a scene with the waiter or who ever gets the drink and if it not come back i threaten to call tourist police that usually works
dont be afraid to call them if they steal u money as u insurance wont be covered if u dont have travel insurance that is.
but as phil says dont be afraid to lose more than what u take with u thats is the best way to min the damage and loss of cards and the hassle to get new ones but be more careful of u drink being spiked than anything else usually they drug u and make u sleep then they steal u stuff more easy that way and leave u either on the sidewalk or in u room it happen so often on beach road and the bars |

had a ST last week in Pook bar with the Joy u talk about.
no problem with me.
Ur all right, forget the wallet in holiday.
I always had my monney in different pockets ( 20 note in one-100 in other one and 500-1000)
And yes Joy is reallly, really hot !
Hope someone can post a pic because i didn't take one.. |

Jing,
Sorry to hear about that, I spent a bit of time in Pooks, no hassle though like the others I do not carry a wallet. Just a concealed money belt and I would have to be out cold in order for someone to remove my belt.
spent some time with Arrth from pook swan (lovely girl). |

No cash?
Hiding your laptop under the bed?
Tight jeans?
Some very good advice here |

Apparently this tactic has worked at home with his smut mags for years, his mum never found them. |

I dont need the sofisticated bed tactic.
I'll just put everything in my shoes |

I remember once intending to pay for a M150 in a 7-11 with my secretly stashed BHT20 note, problem is it must have fallen out of my flip-flop and I left dry-mouthed with no energy - Bummer. |

thats the problem with flip flops, theres just no storage in them.
i once bought a pair, and when i got home, both of them were for the left foot.
i think they were flip flips.
a good tip to hide your laptop in the room, is to paint it white and print the word BREVILLE on the top.
and keep a loaf of bread next to it.
works for me. |
